A Little About a Lot of Things

We don’t have an exact date yet, but G says within the next two weeks!  Hurray!  I’ve really loved New England and have met some great people, but it’s time.  The weather is turning cold and dreary, the beautiful leaves are little more than a colorful carpet and I miss my kitties!  G still has some work on the Huntington bridge (redoing the bridge deck and asphalt and some steel repair) and when it’s complete, we’re loading up and going home.

On another note, I’ve been working hard at my store on Etsy and have had six sales since opening!  Two were from Yamilette, but that’s okay-a sale is a sale!  I’m pretty excited about it, I didn’t know how it was gonna go.  When I get home I know I can add more items, sewing here is a slower process that I’m used to.  It’s really hard not to have all my favorite toys and tools here and it makes it less efficient.  Here’s a few of the things that have sold:

This was a custom order for Yamilette for a Coupon Holder to match her purse:

Here’s Cosmetic/Toiletries bag that I copied from the one I take when I travel, only larger:

That one sold within a day of listing it-I was so surprised!  There’s a couple more, but these were my faves.

I’ve got a lot to do in the next week, getting ready to go home.  Gotta pack (yuk) and figure out where to put all this stuff I’ve accumulated since I’ve been here.  It’s only another two boxes of sewing stuff, but there is only so much room in the truck.  Remember that G was here in June and came back to Florida to pick me and the bike up?  Well, my stuff barely fit in the cab of the truck coming back, and he only had an overnight bag in it then.  I may actually have to ship a couple of boxes-I have acquired a bit of a stash since getting here!  We do have the trailer, but the Springer takes up most of it.  I may be able to tuck a few small bags here and there-extra padding, right?

I need to go back to Webs and get some yarn.  Their prices are so good, I hate not to bring some home.  Of course, I have hardly worked on my socks since I got the sewing machine, but still…I may want to knit when I’m home.  Or on the 18-20 hour drive back.   Another trip to Osgood’s in also in order.  There are quite a few fabrics I want to take home.  I haven’t bought them yet because of the storage issue in the hotel room, but I can just ship them since I won’t be needing them before I leave.  I think my credit card is gonna get quite a workout in the near future!

It’s been a good time in Massachusetts, and I hope to come back in the spring with G to finish the other three bridges.  At least we’ll know the area and have some friends up here.  A few of them are threatening to come to visit us in Florida when the snow gets deep.  That would be fun, if they can handle the heat!

Last week my buddy Litsa and I went out and about.  She was here for the weekend to visit her husband (who works for the same company as G).  After a visit to the Yankee Candle Village, we went driving around taking pictures of the foliage.  Since we both live in Florida, it was a treat.  We saw a sign for an apple farm where you could pick your own, so we did.  What fun!!  Here’s some of what we saw:

Don’t you think the chipmunk is too cute?  He was just having an afternoon snack when we saw him.  We each picked a half peck of apples and headed back towards the hotel.  Along the way, we saw the biggest milk bottle:

Milk does a body good and all, but that is one huge bottle!!  The farm was just down the hill from the elementary school where we saw the bottle.  We went down in the valley and drove around a bit.  It was beautiful.  The cows were right up at the edge of the road with nothing but a wire to keep them off it.  I’m guessing it was electrified.  They were too busy eating to pose for pictures:

After we picked apples and drove around a while, Litsa wanted to see the dinosaur footprints.  So we went down there.  It sure looked different from the last time I was there-all the leaves have turned along the river.  Here’s what it looked like when I first got here:

Just a couple of months and what a difference!  We don’t have all that color in Florida.  And we don’t have the cold either-it was 31 degrees this morning!  Brrrr!

G was off Sunday and Monday for the Colombus Day holiday.  We went riding with a few friends on Sunday afternoon.  We headed up to Vermont and New Hampshire.  It was so pretty, but I didn’t take any pictures.  It was a bit chilly (about 50 when we left, 40 when we got back) and I had my gloves on so couldn’t work the camera.  I probably would have dropped it on the highway if I had tried.  We stopped at the Dunkin’ Donuts in Keene, NH for a pit stop and I was geting pretty chilly so I put on my chaps and scarf.  Much better on the way back.  I’d like to go back that way before we leave, but I think our riding is about over.  It’s getting cold and wet now and that’s no fun.  Maybe I can talk G into going in the truck so I can take some pics and stop at a few of the little stores we passed.  I’m sure he’ll be off in the next few days since they’re calling for rain.

This morning I shipped out my first Etsy order.  Then I cut out a few things so when I get off work tomorrow I can sew them up.  If you get a chance, check out my shop and let me know what you think.

that I have a blog!  It’s been a crazy couple of weeks and now I am in south Florida with G.  Everyone do a dance for sunny skies and no more rain-I need some wind in my face!  It’s been way too long since I’ve been on a good ride and we have plans to ride up to Jupiter and Hobe Sound this weekend.  So please, join our friend Robin in doing a sun dance for us since I have to go home on Monday!

On another note, I have sold a bunch of hats!  My friend Carlos runs a tire shop and had one on at work one day.  A customer came in and commented that his welders would love them.  So Carlos called me and I brought a few up and the guy bought all ten.  Then ordered a dozen more for the rest of his men.  So that’s what I’ve been doing-making more hats.  Didn’t have time to take pics, but they were all really neat.

I promise to post next week when I get back, I made Robin a backpack that I need to show you.  It’s way too cute!  Since she’s going through a really hard time right now, it made her smile, and of course, that makes me smile!

Nana finally sent some new pictures-look how much she’s grown!  It’s hard to believe she’s six months old already.  I think she’s gonna be a heartbreaker!

pinkteaganNana, Mama and Teagan were in town last week, but unfortunately, we never did find a chance to get together.  She went home no more spoiled than when she got here.  Rats, another missed opportunity!

After the bike show, I’m always wiped out.  This week has been no different in that respect, but there’s other stuff going on as well.  My friend T-Bone had an equipment malfunction and wrecked his bike going home after the show (he won first place in Custom Evo with his bike) and is in ICU in an induced coma.  He has Level 4 concussion and it’s still pretty iffy.  Please, as you say your prayers, add T-Bone and his family to them.  He’s a great guy who is always the first to help out anyone who is having a hard time.

Then last night, my good friend’s son was hit on his bike and is in the same hospital.  He’s okay though, no concussion, no core body damage, a possible broken ankle. He’s got a lot of road rash, but will probably be home tomorrow or the next day.  Thankfully, they were both wearing helmets!! (We live in a state where they are optional with proper insurance for riders over 21.  And yes, I DO wear mine!)

Okay, enough with the personal stuff, I’ve actually been sewing!  Today I made a pattern for what my friend R calls a “club purse”.  It’s small, big enough to hold a pack of smokes, cell phone, some money, ID and a lipstick.  It’s got an across the body strap and three zippered pockets.  I tested it in scrap today.  Tomorrow I will do it up in something that can actually be shown in public!  R is a bartender at a very popular club here and sees a lot of different purses and bags and is always trying to describe them so I can make them for her.

I’m almost done with another purse, black embroidered twill with printed lining.  I really like my Skullduggery purse, so I don’t know how much use this one will get, but we’ll see!  I have nothing planned tomorrow so I should be able to finish it and post some pictures.

Again, please keep T-Bone and his family and my friend’s son in your prayers.
